Mayors Christmas Message

Once again the Christmas season is upon us. It is a time of year when we look back at what we have accomplished as a town and what we can do for the year ahead.

As many of you have seen, we have completed new turnaround areas in several locations throughout town, Butts Lane has had the infrastructure replaced which now allows the area to be further developed. Improvements have been made to School Road, Garnier’s Lane, the Fire Hall entrance and Shore Road.

We have now been approved for funding to fix and repair the areas in town which were damaged by the severe storms which occurred in February. That contract has been awarded to Farrell’s Construction and will be completed in the new year.

After several years of being closed, we have been able to reopen Siki Bennett Memorial Stadium. This was done with the help of the St. George’s Stadium Committee who have worked tirelessly to help make this happen, many thanks to all the volunteers for their work.

We have seen the addition of a new restaurant, The Eatery on Main, and as well the addition of confectionary products and longer hours to the gas bar at Central Service Station. Chubb’s Convenience continues to provide new products and great service to our town and many thanks to them.

Another group that have done a tremendous job are our volunteer fire department. These men and women do this job so well and keep us safe and we thank you all. Many thanks to Walter White who has served us as fire chief for many years and due to work commitments has stepped down. Deputy Chief, Nikkia O’Brien has stepped in to fill that roll until February when an election will be held to select the new chief.

One of my best moments in town was welcoming our new Nurse Practitioner, Alora Blanchard-White. We thank you for the service you provide to our town.

I would also like to thank the staff at the town office and our outside workers for doing such a great job.

The things we have accomplished can only be completed with the help and support of the residents of our great town.

The new year will bring new challenges to us and we will strive to bring you the best service we can.

On behalf of council, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mayor: Conrad White
